6×8”, oil on primed linen panel.
I’ve always been told to focus on more intimate subject matter, but sometimes I can’t help myself. I painted this from a paddleboard in the middle of Horsetooth Reservoir, staring up at some of the most beautiful rock formations that I thought deserved their own painting. I had some fun with the brilliant sandstone colors and deep turquoise foliage, and used my palette knife to work in some of the physical detail I caught in the rocks.
