Rocky Mountain National Park has long been my greatest artistic muse. For some time, a big studio goal of mine was to create a large-scale Western work that captured even a piece of the majesty surrounding Dream Lake, in particular.
This painting was created, altered, refined, and ultimately finished over the course of nearly two years. During that time, I made two plein air trips – in winter and summer - to paint this landscape from life and work to truly understand my subject.
Many of those trips were shared with my now-husband, whom I married just under two months ago, and those experiences ultimately inspired a romantic twist on the classic Western mountain scene.
It is with a slight ache in my heart that I offer this painting up, with the hope that it will bring light, love, and the brilliant color of the Colorado mountains into a wonderful home.
10”x20”, oil on primed canvas.

It’s difficult to describe driving into Jackson, Wyoming, and seeing mountains rise instantly from nowhere, forming one of the most iconic spans of the alpine West. The sheer scale and suddenness of the landscape inspired this painting.
After moving to a small ranching area near the Colorado-Wyoming border, I fell in love with the horse. Recently, painting horses from life has both knocked me on my face as an artist and taught me so much about portraying their personalities within the environment. Every horse in this painting exists in life and was studied through plein air work and field photographs.
I have a soft spot for cremellos, with the warmth of their orange-tinted coats against a landscape of cool blues. The natural complementary relationship between horse and mountain almost seems made for a painting.
This piece is a celebration of the West in all its glory, personality, brilliance, and power.
