Late summer brings out some of the most beautiful colors, from the afternoon storms and desert plant life of Colorado to the Cottonwoods edging closer and closer to change. This painting was done on September 13th, 2026, and exemplifies one of the lesser-known issues of a drought year - early color changing. Many of the trees here were stressed, but as an artist, I seek to capture the beauty in every season knowing that there is hope for a redemptive winter of moisture.
I wanted to make sure and capture the edge of a passing storm, as well as the blue sky peeking through and lovely teal foreground shrubbery. The dark line of distant pines created the last piece of the value puzzle, and the painting came together.
